
'Gators Fall in Season Finale

Lafayette, LA - On Friday night the IceGators defeated the league leading Mississippi Surge for the third straight time. Saturday did not follow suit. The Surge scored three goals and were able to shut out the âGators en route to the 2-0 victory.
The first period was fast moving. Goalie A.J Bucchino (LOU) saved ten shots and Bill Zaniboni (MIS) saved 13 shots. During the period there were only two penalties, one for each team. Erik Kent (LOU) was called for hooking with 15:24 remaining in the period. Then at 7:57, Jeff Grant (MIS) was called for hooking but both teams were able to kill the penalties.
The second period began much like the first. The game remained scoreless until the 13:59 mark. Matt Zultek (MIS) scored his 47th goal of the season. Bucchino was able to stop every other shot he faced in the period with 17 saves. The âGators found themselves not able to get many shots on goal, only having eight shots.
The third period opened with each team having guys in the penalty box for fighting at the end of the previous period. With 14:57 remaining in the period, Mississippi was able to add an insurance goal when Andrew Boudreau scored giving the Surge a 2-0 lead. In the closing seconds of the game the Surge's Tim Velemirovich added one more goal to give the Surge a 3-0 lead.
"Tonight we just lost our focus," replied IceGators' Head Coach Dave MacIsaac when asked about the game. "In the previous games of the streak we controlled our penalties and did not make costly mistakes but today we had way to many penalties."
The âGators ended the 2009-10 season winning five of their last six games and look to carry the momentum in the 2010-11 season.
