Lafayette, LA - Saturday was the final home game of the 2009-10 season and it was against the team that they battled with down the stretch of the season, Columbus Cottonmouths. The ‘Gators showed the fans how much they were appreciated by giving them a 4-2 victory.

The first period was a relatively clean period for the IceGators, a team that has been at the top of the league in penalty minutes all year. Louisiana was able to strike first when defensemen Paul DAgostino scored his third goal of the season. Less than a minute later DAgostino scored his fourth goal of the season and second of the game to give the IceGators a 2-0 lead over rival Columbus. The Cottonmouths were not kept quiet for long when Levi Lind scored with 9:52 remaining in the first period. Both the Cottonmouths and the IceGators received their first penalties with 1:05 left in the period when Cam Lilly (LOU) and Ryan McCarthy were each given roughing penalties.

Trevor Karasiewicz (LOU) entered the game with 42 points (17 goals and 25 assists), which leads the team. With 6:35 left in the second period Karasiewicz scored his 18 goal of the season to give the IceGators a 3-1 lead. A.J. Bucchino (LOU) had 14 saves in the period to help the IceGators grow the lead.

The ‘Gators opened the third period taking five of the first six shots. Cam Lilley (LOU) scored another insurance goal with 12:07 remaining in the game. Columbus responded with a goal by Tim Green (COL) to cut the lead in half trailing 4-2.

The IceGators goaltending has been outstanding during the three game winning-streak. Adam Dekker (LOU) had 90 saves in two games and Bucchino (LOU) had 32 saves Saturday night.

"I was glad that we were able to send the fans home happy on fan appreciation night," stated IceGators' Head Coach Dave MacIsaac. "Our fans have stuck with us all season and they deserved this win. It is important for us to carry the momentum that we have created through the remaining games and into next season."

The ‘Gators go on the road for the final three games of the season. Louisiana visits Pensacola (March 25) and Mississippi (March 26 and 27) to close out the season.
