Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA- Louisiana returned to the ice Friday night against the Columbus Cottonmouths knowing they have officially been eliminated from playoff contention for the season. But that did not stop the ‘Gators from out playing and winning 4-2

The ‘Gators opened the game similarly to Thursday night's game in Huntsville. Adam Dekker (LOU) had 11 saves and Columbus' goalie ian Vigier had 13. And just like last night the game was tied at zero at the end of the first period.

Louisiana opened the second period attacking the goal. The IceGators had 17 shots on goal before Cam Lilley (LOU) scored his 13th goal of the season to give the ‘Gators a goal lead. With 2:54 left in the period Mike Ruberto (LOU) scored and a little less than a 1:30 later Paul McBrien (LOU) scored. At this point the ‘Gators were up 3-0, but Jesse Cole (COL) scored with 48 seconds. Just before the end of the period, Sam Bowles (COL) cut the deficit to one, trailing the ‘Gators 3-2 at the end of the period.

In the first seven minutes of the third period the ‘Gators were outshot 10-5 and at one point the Cottonmouths had seven unanswered shots. Trevor Karasiewicz (LOU) added an insurance goal with six seconds remaining in the game giving the ‘Gators a 4-2 lead.

"We have played well in the last two games," stated Louisiana Head Coach Dave MacIsaac. "[Adam] Dekker has played great the last two games. In addition to good goalie play we were able to control ourselves only having five penalties."

In the last two games Dekker has had 90 saves. Last night against Huntsville he had 47 and tonight 43. In the third period alone he saved 21.

The ‘Gators return home for the final home game of the season against the Columbus (March 20). At the game the IceGators will crown the 2010 Miss Louisiana IceGator.
