New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
New Orleans - Cox Sports Television and the New Orleans Zephyrs announced today an eight game broadcast schedule for the New Orleans-based Triple-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins. The first game of the broadcast schedule is set for Opening Night Thursday, April 8 at 7:00pm against the Round Rock Express.
Edwin Rodriguez returns for his second season as the manager of the Zephyrs for the 2010 season. This will be Rodriguez's seventh season within the Florida Marlins organization. In 2009, the Zephyrs posted a 63-80 record. Despite the losing record, Manager Edwin Rodriguez felt the season was a success due to the development of young players who look forward to contributing in the upcoming 2010 season.
"The Zephyrs are thrilled to partner with CST again in 2010," said Z's General Manager Mike Schline. "It is a great partnership and CST always delivers a great product into the homes of our fans."
The Texas Rangers triple-A affiliate, the Oklahoma City Redhawks, visit Zephyr Field twice on CST. The Redhawks, led by manager Bobby Jones, finished the 2009 season 5 1/2 games ahead of the Zephyrs for second place in the PCL American South Division.
The Memphis Redbirds, the triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, won the Pacific Coast League Championship in 2009. Looking to continue their success, led by manager Chris Maloney, the Redbirds will visit New Orleans and play on CST July 16 and July 30.
The Omaha Royals and Las Vegas 51's will each play the Zephyrs once live on CST. The Royals, the triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals are looking to rebound from a down year after finishing 64-80 and last place in the PCL American North Division. They will play the Zephyrs Sunday, July 4 at Zephyr Field. The Las Vegas 51's, the triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays only finished 2 games below.500 but ended up finishing last in their challenging division.
Tim Grubbs and Ron Swoboda will again team up in 2010 for all eight CST broadcasts from Zephyr Field. Grubbs, who is the team's Director of Broadcasting, will provide play-by-play, while Swoboda will serve as analyst. Again this year Grubbs and Swoboda will also host Inside Zephyrs Baseball, a 30 minute in-depth look at the Z's. Visit www.coxsportstv.com for dates and times when the show will be airing.
