Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that they have acquired power forward Kevin Rogers (6-9, 250, Baylor). To make room on the roster, the Vipers waived power forward/center Julian Sensley (6-9, 225, Hawaii) due to injury.
A native of Dallas, Rogers opened up the season with Panionios ON Telecoms Athens where he recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds in three games between October 25 and November 7, 2009. Rogers also played for the Boston Celtics in the 2009 Orlando Pro Summer League, where he averaged 8.6 points, 4.4 rebounds (2.0 offensive) and 1.4 blocks in five games (two starts) in the span of five days. He averaged 25.2 minutes per game while shooting 52.9% (18-for-34) from the field.
The 23-year old started 101 consecutive games to finish his undergraduate career and became the fifth player in Baylor history to record 1,000 points and 800 rebounds. He finished first in career-wins (64), tied for second in games played (118), fifth in games started (101), second in minutes played (3.448), tenth in minutes per game (29.2), seventh in points (1,371), tied for fourth in double-doubles (25), seventh in field goals made (548), eighth in field goals attempted (1,057), third in rebounds (865) and sixth in blocked shots (85). Rogers started every game over his final three years, averaging 12.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 0.7 blocks per game while shooting 53.2% from the field. He graduated in 2009 with a degree in speech communications.
"Kevin Rogers is a young big with physical tools and is an ideal candidate for development and evaluation at the NBA D-League level. In addition, with some of our recent injuries, he addresses a real need on our roster as a strong, mobile big. Kevin has a great opportunity with our team, coaches and staff, and we look forward to his development with the RGV Vipers," Vipers General Manager Gersson Rosas said.
Sensley, who missed the last game with achilles tendonitis, is averaging 8.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 24 games (17 starts).
