Tulsa Drillers News Release
Tulsa Drillers manager Ron Gideon will be available on Monday, February 15 for media interviews at ONEOK Field, the Drillers new downtown home. Gideon will meet with the media at 2:00PM in one of the ballpark's new clubhouses. He will discuss the upcoming season and the changes that will occur in moving to a new park.
The 2009 season will mark Gideon's first full year in charge of the Drillers. He was named Drillers' manager on May 29 of last season, replacing Stu Cole when he was promoted to Triple A. Gideon led Tulsa to a 50-44 record during his time in the dugout.
The Drillers narrowly missed qualifying for the Texas League playoffs last year despite compiling the best overall record in the North Division. Tulsa lost a one-game playoff to Springfield in the first half, then finished one game behind Northwest Arkansas in the second-half race.
Gideon will be stopping in Tulsa while in route to Tucson, Arizona where the Drillers and their parent club, the Colorado Rockies, will hold spring training workouts.
Drillers President Chuck Lamson and Manahattan Construction Project Manager Bob Jack will also be available for interviews during the event. Lamson and Jack will give an update on the construction process of ONEOK Field.
The Drillers are slated to open the 2010 Texas League season with the opening game at ONEOK Field on Thursday, April 8 against Corpus Christi. The game will mark the first professional baseball game played in downtown Tulsa in over 80 years. The last game played in the downtown area was the final game of the Tulsa Oilers 1929 season. That game was played at McNulty Park which was located at 10th and Elgin.
