Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Stampede announced this afternoon that forward Mike Voran has committed to the University of Notre Dame for the 2010-11 season. He becomes the 15th Stampede player to commit to a Division I program this season.

The Livonia, MI native is the Herd's leading scorer with 47 points in 38 games. Voran, an "Assistant Captain" with the Herd, is tied for the team lead in goals (17) and assists (30). He leads the team in powerplay assists with 12 and shots on goal with 122.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound forward was the Herd's first round selection (6th overall) during the 2009 USHL Draft. He spent last season with the Wenatchee Wild of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where he led the team in scoring during the regular season and led the league in scoring during the playoffs.

When Voran steps on the ice next fall, he will become the fifth former Stampede player to suite up for the Irish. Notre Dame is currently 12-11-7 on the season and in fifth place in the CCHA. Last year, Notre Dame captured both the regular season and post season championships in the CCHA.

Ryan Guentzel (2006-07), Ryan Thang (2004-06) and the Irish travel to Western Michigan this weekend to face Dane Walters (2007-09) and the Broncos.

Voran and the Stampede return to action tomorrow night (Saturday) when they travel to Sioux City to face the Musketeers at 7:05 PM. Fans can listen to the game "live" on News Talk 1320 KELO-AM or www.keloam.com.
