RiverKings Inch Forward In Coaches Poll

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League inched forward one spot in the latest Yellowbook CHL Coaches Poll released today from the league offices in Tempe, Arizona. Mississippi moved up to seventh among the top ten teams from the eighth position in the last rankings taken in mid-January.

The RiverKings have a 22-17-4 record after a 3-2 loss at Allen last night, but will be seeking to return the favor when the teams have a re-match Friday night, February 5th in Allen, Texas.

Mississippi earned 61 points in the balloting, done on a sliding 10-9-8-7-6-, etc. scale with ten points awarded for first place, and so forth.

The Southern Conference-leading Odessa Jackalopes are a unanimous number one choice in the latest rankings, done by the league coaches twice each month. The 35-6-4 Jackalopes received 14 first place ballots (teams are not allowed to vote for themselves) for 140 points.

Northern Conference-co-leader Rapid City (28-10-3) is ranked second, moving up from third in the last poll. The 28-10-3 Rush did not receive any first-place votes, but received 117 points.

That's three points more than the third-place Colorado Eagles, the other Northern Conference co-leader (27-95). Colorado received the other first-place vote and earned 114 points.

Allen remains in fourth place in the poll and Bossier-Shreveport moved up to fifth place from sixth in the last rankings.

The remaining five teams in the coaches' poll are Texas, the RiverKings, Laredo, Corpus Christi, and Tulsa.

Rio Grande Valley and Missouri dropped out of the rankings.

The CHL Top 10 Coaches Poll will be released on or near the beginning and middle of each month through the regular season. Each first place vote receives ten points, second place votes earn nine points, etc. Click here to see the entire poll.

Next home action for the RiverKings will be Saturday, February 6th against the Wichita Thunder at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. Game time is 7:05 PM. Mid-South Greyhound Adoption Option is featured and the RiverKings will wear special game jerseys for the contest. A post-game skate will follow the contest while an auction of the game-worn jerseys go on at the same time.
