Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Stampede announced that they have acquired defenseman Jamie Oleksiak (Oh-lex-SEE-ack) from the Chicago Steel in exchange for defenseman Richard Coyne.

Oleksiak is 6-foot-7, 220-pounds and in his second season in the USHL. The Toronto, Ontario native joined the Steel midway through last season, appearing in 29 games and posting four assists. This season, Oleksiak has registered 10 assists, 43 penalty minutes and is a plus-1 in 29 games with Chicago. He has already committed to Northeastern University for the 2010-11 season.

"We were looking for some size and veteran experience on the blueline," said Stampede Director of Scouting and Player Development John Rosso. "He is a defensive d-man that we feel can help make us a better team this year. Chicago was looking for a defenseman who will be back next season and this will give Richard an opportunity to play on a more consistent basis," added Rosso.

Oleksiak, who has dual citizenship, was a second-round draft pick of the Steel during the 2008 USHL Futures Draft. Prior to joining the Steel last season, he recorded 15 points (4g, 11a) in 36 games with the Detroit Little Caesars Midget Major "AAA" team.

Coyne skated in 22 games for the Herd this season, posting a goal and two assists. He was selected by the Stampede during the 2008 USHL Futures Draft.

Oleksiak is expected to join the Stampede this weekend as they travel to Cedar Rapids and Lincoln, Friday and Saturday night. Game time is 7:05 PM each night and both games can be heard on News Talk 1320 KELO-AM or www.keloam.com starting at 6:40 PM.
