
Killer Bees Blast RiverKings In Rio Grande Valley

HIDALGO, TX --- Rio Grande Valley erupted for five third-period goals, including three from Sean Muncy, in defeating the Mississippi RiverKings 7-3 in Central Hockey League action Sunday evening in Hidalgo, Texas.
Mississippi had a 3-1 lead built in the second period, thanks to a power play goal in the first minute of the game from Steve Makway, and goals from Matt Summers and Louis Dumont, whose 11th goal of the year came at the 11:37 mark of the middle session.
But the Killer Bees then took advantage of the its special teams play to score two power play goals and a shorthanded goal, along with a pair of full-strength goals and Muncy's empty-netter with 24 seconds remaining to win the only meeting of the year between the two teams.
Mississippi scored once on the power play in three chances, while the Killer Bees were 2-for-8. Rio Grande Valley out shot the RiverKings 43-34.
Ian Keserich was the losing goaltender for Mississippi (3-1-1) and allowed five goals. Kevin Beech replaced him in the third period after the fifth Killer Bee goal, allowing one goal. Wylie Rogers was the winning goalie for Rio Grande Valley with a 31-save effort.
With the loss, the RiverKings are remain in the fifth place in the CHL Northern Conference with a 12-12-2 record. They'll head to Corpus Christi to play the IceRays on Tuesday night, December 22nd at 7:05 PM.
