Columbus Lions News Release

(COLUMBUS)- The Columbus Lions are proud to announce the signing of four players to their 2010 roster. The club has signed offensive lineman Rashad Chisholm, fullback Melvin Parris, defensive back Darius Pettigrew, and linebacker Durrell Mapp.

Chisholm (6-3, 310 Fort Valley State) joins the Lions after most recently spending time with the South Georgia Wildcats. Rashad will look to earn a spot on a lions offensive line that ended the 2009 campaign third in the league in sacks against.

Parris (6-2, 260 Buffalo State) was impressive in preseason workouts and will look to make an immediate impact at fullback, linebacker, and may see some time at defensive end. He has extensive experience in the former af2 league playing for the Albany Firebirds, Fort Wayne Fusion, and the Bossier City Battlewings which should add veteran leadership to the Lions locker room.

Pettigrew (6-1, 185 West Georgia) will rejoin the Lions after leaving the club in training camp of the 2009 season to play for the Texas Copperheads. While with the Copperheads, Pettigrew established himself as a physical corner that could match up with the league top receivers. He finished the season with 61.5 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 1 touchdown. Pettigrew will join a Lions secondary that was tops in the league last year in pass defense.

Mapp (6-2, 235 North Carolina) played for the University of North Carolina from 2005-2008. He led the team in tackles his senior year with 132 tackles which was good for 10th in the nation. He was an all ACC selection at linebacker and finished his career with a total of 271 tackles, 12.5 TFL's, 4.0 sacks, and 1 interception. Mapp will provide versatility at the linebacker position and has the ability to play defensive back.
