Three For The Third

November 25, 2009 - United States Hockey League (USHL) Waterloo Black Hawks

J.T. Brown scored twice as the Waterloo Black Hawks broke open a tight game with the Omaha Lancers with three third period goals Wednesday, pulling away for a 5-2 win at Omaha's Civic Auditorium.

The first four tallies of the night came on the power play. Matt White put Omaha ahead early with a rebound marker at 11:57 of the first. Nick Sorkin answered with a transition goal set up by a long Dan Sova pass at 13:40.

The Hawks pulled ahead for the first time when Brock Montpetit stepped through traffic to fire a shot under the crossbar at 7:52 of the second. It was the first of three points for the Black Hawk captain.

Troy Power retied the score at 4:31 of the third. Montpetit's hustling play set up Brown in front of the net at 12:43 to put the Hawks in front for good. Fifteen seconds later, Tyler Zepeda swiped a puck between the circles and made the most of his opportunity. Brown added an empty-netter with 2:35 remaining.

The Black Hawks' win ends a seven-game road losing streak and Omaha's six-game home winning streak. Waterloo returns to Young Arena Thursday for their traditional Thanksgiving meeting with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
