Columbus Lions News Release

Football is a chance to get involved, and the ability to reach our community; it's about teaming up, and touching lives. Football isn't just about the number of touch downs at the end of the game, but rather how well the team plays.

Merrill Stone, a young Columbus Lions fan, reinforced how football isn't just a game when he was all smiles after a visit from the Lions' wide receiver Gerald Gales Wednesday afternoon.

Pat Johnson, whose nephew Merrill Stone is currently in intensive care at St. Francis hospital, recognized Coach Jason Gibson having lunch at Pizza Hut on Wednesday. After sharing her nephew's story and requesting an autographed football to lift his spirits the manager of Pizza Hut, Debra Moore offered the Columbus Lions football that she had in the store to Mrs. Johnson for Merrill.

Upon returning to the office Coach Gibson shared Merrill's story with his staff, and wanted to do more for the young boy. Columbus Lions' wide receiver, Gerald Gales, without hesitation offered to make a personal trip down to the hospital and visit with Merrill Stone himself. Although Merrill was unable to speak he was able to nod his head that he recognized Gerald Gales when he entered the room.
