Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - John DeCaro made 31 saves, including 16 in the third period, as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs knocked off the Texas Brahmas 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the NyTex Sports Centre. Neil Clark and Travis Clayton scored the goals for Bossier-Shreveport, who won their fourth consecutive road game to start the season to improve to 4-5-0 this year.

Clayton's second period goal gave the Mudbugs a two-goal lead for the first time this season and also proved to be the game-winner. The 'Bugs held Texas scoreless on six powerplay chances and evened the season series at 1-1 against the Brahmas.

The Mudbugs looked good in the first period, outshooting Texas 11-5 and taking a 1-0 lead in the contest. Joe Blaznek made a great play to set up the goal, threading a long pass through traffic to Neil Clark, who fought through a check and beat Brett Jaeger for his second goal of the season at 14:32.

Bossier-Shreveport scored again in the second period to take a two-goal advantage when Travis Clayton found his own rebound in a scrum in front of the Texas net and jammed it in to make it 2-0. The Brahmas answered later in the period with an odd goal as a shot deflected high into the air, over DeCaro's back and into the net to get Texas on the scoreboard. The 'Bugs still held the 2-1 lead heading into the third period of play.

The Brahmas outshot the Mudbugs 16-5 in the final period and had three powerplay chances, but Bossier-Shreveport played strong defensively and got a few big saves from DeCaro to stay on top and earn their fourth win of the season.

John DeCaro improves to 4-2-0 this year with the victory, while Brett Jaeger drops to 2-3-0 after stopping 25 shots. Texas outshot Bossier-Shreveport 32-27 in the contest. The 'Bugs finished 0 for 6 on the powerplay.

The Mudbugs will now have four days off before traveling to Mississippi on face the RiverKings for the second time this season on Friday night at 7:05 pm. The 'Bugs are 1-0 at the DeSoto Civic Center this season after a 2-1 victory over the 'Kings on Halloween in the teams' first meeting of the year.

Bossier-Shreveport will then return home to face Rapid City at 7:05 pm on Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center. Group packages and mini-plans are available through the Mudbugs office at 752-BUGS, while individual tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster at 741-9700.
