Toros Host 2009 Draft Part

Austin, TX October 29, 2009 - The Austin Toros will host their 2009 NBA D-League Draft Party at the Hyatt Regency downtown on November 5th starting at 6:00p.m. Entry is free and fans should arrive early for happy hour specials, games, and give-a-ways. Fans can also meet members of the 2009-10 Capital City Dance team and Toros mascot Da Bull. Marc Hoenig, Toros play-by-play announcer will announce the selections as they occur during the viewing party.

The ninth annual draft will air live from the NBA TV studio in Atlanta, GA. The draft offers NBA D-League teams the opportunity to build their rosters from a pool of available players. The draft will be televised on NBA TV and streamed live online on NBA.com ( www.nba.com/dleague) beginning at 6 p.m. (CT).

Each team will be given one pick in each of the eight rounds. The Toros will pick sixth in the first round of the draft. The draft utilizes a "serpentine" format, meaning the selection order will be reversed in each of the eight rounds. Toros General Manager Dell Demps and Head Coach Quin Snyder will lead the basketball operations staff making the selection of players that will attend training camp mid-November.

"With the 6th pick in the NBADL draft, Quin Snyder and our staff will be seeking an impact player that will contribute to the Austin Toros on the court and in the Austin community," said Demps. "Hopefully, we will find motivated players in the draft that will develop into NBA players as they help us to continue success on the basketball court."

Snyder added, "As in previous years, our emphasis is on not only the players' talents as a basketball player but equally on the players' individual character and commitment to the integrity of the team. We are confident that we will find a couple of Toros from that mix that are capable of blending with and supplementing the abilities of our returning players."
