Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA. October 29, 2009. Ron Handy explained yesterday afternoon why he stepped down as the Louisiana IceGators head coach.
As Assistant General Manager, Handy will make sure that the IceGators will stay here permanently. He will start to concentrate on community relations and off-ice operations. "At first, my main goal was to bring hockey back into Louisiana. Now, I want to concentrate on the team's visibility within the community. I will coordinate the IceGators to meet with local schools and hospitals, as well as making sure that our dedicated fans and sponsors are happy."
Brent Sapergia of the Louisiana IceGators, was unable to attend the press conference due to a coaching conflict. Sapergia will temporarily take Handy's place behind the ice starting on Friday's game against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. The game starts at 7:05 pm in Blackham Coliseum.
