
Davis, Slonina Among Seven Selected From Tryout Camp

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, announced the following seven players have been extended and accepted training camp tryout agreement offers from Thunder Free Agent Tryout Camp, which concluded on Saturday:

- Takaahi Ishikawa (D)
- Matt Pamidi (G)
- Alex Redmond (D)
- Danny Roy (G)
- Steve Slonina (C)
- Kazuma Takahashi (F)
Among the players with NHL and ECHL ties:
Davis, 28, was a ninth round selection (266th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and spent four years (2002-06) of his Canadian University career with McGill University, suiting up in 78 games while scoring 39 points (17g-22a) and collecting 110 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-4, 213 pound forward was a participant in AHL training camp with the Portland Pirates in 2007-08 and also split five years (1997-2002) in junior hockey with Portland, Medicine Hat and Prince George, scoring 144 points (83g-61a) while amassing 365 penalty minutes in 338 games. The Calgary, Alberta native helped guide Portland to a Memorial Cup championship in 1997-98.
Slonina, 28, spent last year in England with the Hull Stingrays of the Elite Ice Hockey League and spent parts of two seasons (2005-07) with the Thunder, ranking tied for seventh on the team's all-time scoring list with 60 points (29g-31a) in 102 games. In five seasons, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound veteran forward has suited up in 289 ECHL games with the Thunder, Gwinnett, Toledo, Greenville, Charlotte and Bakersfield, scoring 153 points (70g-83a).
Takahashi, 31, is a native of Hachinohe, Japan and spent the last two seasons (2007-09) with the Utah Grizzlies, suiting up 44 games while collecting five assists and 43 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward also spent two years in the Asia Ice Hockey League with Nikko, scoring 47 points (23g-24a) in 79 games.
In addition, the following players were also selected after the two-day event:
Ishikawa is a 6-foot-2, 202-pound defenseman/forward who joins the Thunder roster after participating with Japan's national team at the Under-18 and Under-20 World Championships.
Pamidi, a 6-foot-1, 189-pound goaltender and San Jose, Calif. native, spent his college career with the men's club team of San Jose State University. He is joined by Redmond as a former Spartan teammate and San Jose native.
Redmond played two seasons for the men's club team of San Jose State University and suited up in 48 games for Danbury of the Eastern Professional Hockey League last season, scoring 20 points (8g-12a).
Roy, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound goaltender, makes a return to Thunder training camp on a tryout basis for the second consecutive season. He spent his college playing career as a goaltender for Santa Rosa (Calif.) Junior College.
The Thunder is scheduled to host "FanFest" on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena, where admission is free to the public.
The Thunder returns to the ice for preseason play on Thursday, Oct. 8 against the Bakersfield Condors, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena. The 2009-10 season, the Fifth Year Anniversary for the team, launches on Friday, Oct. 16 at Qwest Arena against the Idaho Steelheads at 6:10 p.m. and the Thunder home opener is Friday, Oct. 23 against the Ontario Reign at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena.
The Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew 223,854 fans to Stockton Arena in 2008-09.
