ROUND ROCK - Not one to lie in the doghouse too long, Spike is at it again.

After taking a few weeks off after the season, Spike is busy preparing for the Mamma Jamma Ride on Saturday, October 10. The course, which features multiple routes ranging from 10 miles to 100 miles, will kick off at Reunion Ranch in Georgetown at 8:30 a.m.

Long-distance bike rides are nothing new to Spike. He completed the BP MS-150 in April, riding more than 70 miles and battling through mechanical difficulties and Mother Nature. For the Mamma Jamma Ride, Spike will be riding his recumbent bicycle through the Hill Country and Texas towns such as Bertram and Liberty Hill with hopes of raising awareness for breast cancer.

Cyclists are required to raise at least $500 for their ride. Those wishing to support Spike in his latest altruistic effort may click here for the donation page. Express fans helped Spike raise over $1,500 for the BP MS-150 through the online donation form last April. Fans are encouraged to join Spike on the ride, or support him and other riders at the finish line at Reunion Ranch.

The Texas Mamma Jamma Ride is a new charity ride designed to raise funds for services and care for our neighbors coping with breast cancer. One out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer but with early detection and good care, more can survive. The Mamma Jamma Ride raises money for 10 local nonprofits, including the Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, whom the Express teamed up with in July for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Pink in the Park Night.

This past week, Express fan and one of Spike's closest friends, Sara Sullivan, passed away after being diagnosed with breast cancer in February. Sara was being treated for her cancer, while also being pregnant with her first child. A loving wife, mother and breast cancer fighter, Sara lost her life days after giving birth to a healthy baby, Chloe Grace. A true inspiration to all, Spike's ride will be dedicated to her memory. For more information on Sara Sullivan and her family, visit www.bandssullivan.blogspot.com.

Cyclists of all skill levels are welcome to participate and will be fully supported during the October 10 ride. For more information on the inaugural Texas Mamma Jamma Ride, visit www.mammajammaride.org or call 512-371-RIDE (7433).
