ROUND ROCK - As most staff members of a minor league team settle into the tranquility the month of September brings, one person in particular from Ryan-Sanders Baseball is busy preparing for his Triple-A call-up.
Garrett Reddehase, the Corpus Christi Hooks' field superintendent, has been promoted to Round Rock as the head groundskeeper. Reddehase, who has been involved with the grounds crew at Whataburger Field since the building of the facility in 2005, has been the club's head groundskeeper since October of 2007.
Most recently, Reddehase was named the 2009 Texas League's Turf Manager of the Year, an award voted on by Texas League managers and umpires. During the Hooks' inaugural 2005 season, Reddehase and crew nurtured the league's best playing surface. In the interim, Whataburger Field was voted the second-best playing surface in the eight-team league in 2007 and 2008, and was also selected as the top field in the South Division.
"I'd like to thank everyone with the Hooks and the Express, and I'm excited for the new opportunity in Round Rock," said Reddehase. "Ryan-Sanders Baseball is a first-class organization and it's an honor to continue the standard set at The Dell Diamond over the last 10 years."
Reddehase, 26, graduated from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology Sports Management and a minor in Business.
The responsibility of a head groundskeeper in both Round Rock and Corpus Christi involves supervising a crew of groundskeepers charged with maintaining the playing surface, berms and exterior grounds year-round. While baseball is the primary attraction, The Dell Diamond and Whataburger Field are also the sites for amateur, collegiate and high school sporting events, as well as musical concerts, craft shows and other events throughout the year.
