HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns raised $3,413 for the Nick Adenhart Memorial Fund through an autographed-ball drawing at Municipal Stadium this season, the Suns announced Thursday.

A Washington County native and graduate of Williamsport High School, Nick Adenhart passed away in an automobile accident on April 9, hours after pitching six scoreless innings in his 2009 debut for the Los Angeles Angels.

"The success of our fundraising campaign here at the ballpark resulted from the generosity of both the baseball community and Nick Adenhart's hometown community here in Washington County," Suns President and General Manager Bob Flannery said. "The Hagerstown Suns are proud to say that we could not have done it without either of them."

The Nick Adenhart Memorial Fund was created by Adenhart's parents in memory of their son's love of baseball, with the goal of providing financial assistance to struggling Little League baseball teams nationwide.

A total of seventeen Major League Baseball teams -- from the nearby Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles to Adenhart's Los Angeles Angels -- donated autographed baseballs to the Suns' drawing. The entire Suns' roster and coaching staff signed balls as well, bringing the total number of baseballs in the drawing to more than 370.

Starting with their game against the West Virginia Power on Saturday, August 1, the Suns began to award fans a numbered ticket for each $10 donation to the Nick Adenhart Fund. Each ticket corresponded to one of the over 370 autographed balls, which was then presented to the donor.
