Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After a dramatic walk-off win on Monday night to save the Quakes season, the High Desert Mavericks and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes locked up in pitcher's duel on Tuesday.
With the score 0-0 in the 4th, the Quakes struck first against Mavericks starter JC Ramirez. Efren Navarro led off with a single to center field and stole second base before Jay Brossman walked with one out. Hector Estrella came up and delivered an RBI single to left to score Navarro to make the score 1-0. With runners at second and third, Clay Fuller laid down a squeeze bunt allowing Brossman to score to give Rancho a 2-0 lead.
Ryan Brasier started for Rancho and was the story. Brasier did not allow a Mavericks player to get past second base. He lasted a career high eight innings, allowing just three hits, while walking one and striking out seven.
High Desert had some fight left in them in the 9th against Quakes closer Michael Kohn as Jeffrey Dominguez drew a lead off walk, Jamie McOwen struck out, and Carlos Peguero drew a walk to put the tying run at first. With one out, Kohn struck out Cal League MVP Alex Liddi before allowing a bloop single into right to Joe Dunigan, to score Dominguez to make the score 2-1. With runners on the corners and the tying run at third, Kohn struck out Travis Scott to end the game.
After the win, Rancho is even 2-2 in the best-of-five series against High Desert. The Quakes will send left hander Manuel Flores to mound against left hander Donnie Hume for the Mavs in the decisive game 5. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm in Adelanto.
