Team Canada defeated Russia 9-2 in the Gold Medal Game of the 2009 Under 18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament Saturday in Breclav, Czech Republic. The Canadian side broke open a close game with four goals in a span of five and a half minutes late in the second period to take a 6-1 lead. Canada finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record, outscoring their opposition 27-7 in the four games. It was the second consecutive tournament gold medal for Canada and fifth in the past six years.

Bulls defenceman Stephen Silas recorded one assist and two penalty minutes in the four Canadian victories and becomes the first Bull to win a gold medal at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament since Bryan Cameron in 2006. Silas also won a gold medal with Team Ontario this past January at the 2009 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.
