Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(SAN BERNARDINO, CA) - After getting shut out the night before, the Lancaster JetHawks wasted no time in scoring and taking an early lead Saturday night in San Bernardino. Unfortunately, the advantage didn't hold as the Inland Empire 66ers came from behind twice and beat the JetHawks 8-3. The game was played in front of Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda, who was inducted in the 66ers Hall of Fame in an entertaining pre-game ceremony that delayed the start of the game several minutes.

J.B. Shuck started the game with a triple and came in to score on a single by Jon Gaston. Gaston then scored on a 66ers error as the JetHawks pulled in front 2-0 before ever taking the field. Inland Empire evened the score in the second inning, but Shuck's RBI single in the fourth inning gave the JetHawks a second lead.

Lancaster starter Tip Fairchild pitched well over the first four innings, but the turning point came in the fifth. A controversial call on a hit batter loaded the bases for Inland Empire. 66ers outfielder Scott Van Slyke took advantage by hitting a grand slam, the first bases-loaded homer the JetHawks had allowed all season.

Despite outhitting the 66ers 10-8, the JetHawks left eight men on base and didn't score again after the fourth inning. Shuck led the offense with three hits, falling a homer short of the cycle. Gaston and Ronnie Ramirez had two hits each.

The series concludes Sunday evening in San Bernardino. Chris Hicks (8-7) will pitch for the JetHawks against the 66ers Kyle Smit (0-2). The game will begin at 6:05 and will be broadcast live on radio at Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com.
