Camden Riversharks News Release
The Camden Riversharks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers today, by a final score of 4-1. Camden pitcher Josh Brey (3-5) suffered the loss, as he gave up 3 runs and 6 hits in 6.1 innings of work. Lancaster's Jason Scobie (5-6) picked up the win, as he allowed just 1 run and 6 hits in 5.1 innings. With the loss, the Riversharks' season tally falls to 5-11, while the Barnstormer's improves to 7-10.
The Barnstormers broke the scoreless tie in the 4th inning, and took an early 3-0 lead. With two runners in scoring position, third baseman Aaron Herr singled to right field, driving home Matt Watson and former Rivershark L.J. Biernbaum. Two batters later, catcher Gerald Haran stepped to the plate and slapped a base hit to left field, scoring Herr, and upping the visitor's lead.
The Sharks pulled back a run in the 6th inning, courtesy of a homerun by third baseman Brian Burgamy. The solo shot was his seventh homerun of the season, and made the score 3-1.
Lancaster added an insurance run in the ninth inning. With a runner on third base, second baseman Cesar Suarez hit a soft ground ball to Camden's Bryant Nelson, who misfired on his throw to first base, allowing Vic Gutierrez to score and making the score 4-1.
With a three run lead in the final inning, the Barnstormers put the ball in the hands of closer Antonio Alfonseca. The long time major league pitcher managed to retire the Riversharks without giving up any runs, and picked up his seventh save of the season.
The Riversharks and Barnstormers will wrap up their three game series tomorrow at 1:35pm. Right handed pitcher Brian Reith (3-4, 4.80) will take the mound for the Riversharks, in what will be his debut with the team. He will be opposed by right handed pitcher Trey Hodges (1-4, 4.73) from Lancaster. Limited seating for the game is still available.
