Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Drive have been tough to beat in series finales this season, and they proved why once again on Saturday. Four different batters tallied an RBI and Stolmy Pimentel tossed 6.0 strong innings to defeat the Rome Braves 4-1.
The Drive (46-38, 7-9) drew first blood in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs off Rome starter Dimaster Delgado (1-4). Kade Keowen belted a solo homer, and with two outs Mitch Dening drew a walk, stole second and scored on Oscar Tejeda's double.
After limiting the Braves (39-48, 4-13) to just two hits through the first four innings, Pimentel (8-3) was tagged for the only run surrendered by a trio of Drive pitchers in the top of the fifth. Samuel Sime led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. With two outs, it looked like the third baseman would be stranded 90 feet from home, however Chais Fuller singled him in.
It wouldn't take Greenville long to claim a three-run lead, scoring two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The highest scoring team with two outs in an inning in the South Atlantic League, added two more to their total when Ty Weeden doubled home a run and Dening added an RBI-single.
Leandro Marin and Armando Zerpa combined to hold the Braves scoreless over the final three innings. Marin hurled 2.0 innings, allowing two hits and fanning three before Zerpa tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.
After an off day on Sunday, the Drive trek north for four-game sets against the Hagerstown Suns and Lake County Captains. Hunter Strickland (5-4, 3.07 ERA) will get the ball for Greenville in game one against Hagerstown on Monday, with the Suns' pitcher yet to be determined.
The Drive return home to Fluor Field in 10 days, when they begin an eight-game homestand on Wednesday, July 22nd. Greenville "Pitches In" kicks-off the homestand as anyone can come to Fluor Field beginning at 6 AM to throw out a first pitch. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Children's Hospital at Greenville Hospital System. Single-game tickets, group outings, and luxury accommodations can be purchased by calling (864) 240-4500 or visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com for more information.
