Published on July 6, 2009 under Southern League (SL1) News Release

Hitter of the Week

GREG HALMAN, OF, WEST TENN DIAMOND JAXX

Halman put on quite the power display last week, blasting a league-high six homers to lead West Tenn into first place in the North Division. The Haarlem, Netherlands native ended the week on a high note, recording two straight two-homer, three-RBI performances on Saturday and Sunday. He added six hits and six runs in those games as well. On July 4, Halman victimized Huntsville's Mike Jones twice in a 10-2 victory and added two solo shots the next day. Halman, named Seattle's No. 1 prospect by Baseball America prior to the season, led the league with 11 runs last week, including the walk-off tally in West Tenn's 1-0 win over Mississippi July 2. For the season, Halman leads the league with 20 homers and ranks fifth with 48 RBI and 34 extra-base hits.

Pitcher of the Week

CASEY COLEMAN, RHP, TENNESSEE SMOKIES

Coleman had arguably the best week of his already impressive 2009 campaign, collecting two victories and allowing just two runs in 14.2 innings. Against Huntsville on June 29, Coleman struck out six in 6.2 innings in a 7-2 Smokies win. He followed that effort with his finest start of the season, blanking Carolina through eight innings while yielding just a pair of base hits. Coleman even pitched in on offense, collecting two hits. That outing lowered his ERA to 2.56, which ranks second in the league. The Cape Coral, Fla. native was named to the Southern League North Division All-Star Team earlier last week and has won three consecutive starts. His nine wins rank first in the circuit.
