July 6, 2009 - Southern League (SL) - Tennessee Smokies News Release

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Smokies pitcher Casey Coleman was named today by the Southern League as the Southern League "Pitcher of the Week," for the week of June 29-July 5. Coleman is the first Smokies pitcher to receive this award in 2009.

Last week's performance caps a very impressive first-half for the Cape Coral, Fla. native. Coleman limited the Huntsville Stars on June 29 at Smokies Park to two runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings of work, striking out six. He rounded out the week with eight innings of two-hit ball against the Carolina Mudcats yesterday, striking out four. In total, he allowed only two runs on nine hits in 14.2 innings pitched last week, striking out 10 and walking five.

Coleman leads the Southern League with nine wins (9-3 overall) and is second with a 2.56 ERA. The 15th-round pick of the Chicago Cubs in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft was named to the Southern League North Division All-Star Team last week and has won five of his last six starts.
