
Jaxx Pitching Dominates in 6-0 Triumph Over Braves

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 30, 2009) - The Diamond Jaxx (5-4) win their second in a row and fifth in six games, with a 6-0 shutout win over the Mississippi Braves (4-4). The shutout is the first for the Jaxx since June 2nd and the fourth of the season. Shell was brilliant for his third consecutive start, dealing six shutout innings. Shell has not allowed an earned run in 15 innings and in 21innings he has allowed just one earned run. Shell's ERA is now 0.43. Johan Limonta goes 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in the game to lead the Jaxx offensively.
The Jaxx greeted right-hander Deunte Heath rudely on Monday night, thrashing five runs in the first. With the bases loaded, Johan Limonta was hit by a pitch scoring Ezequiel Carrera, who walked to lead off the inning. David Espinosa doubled in Greg Halman and Marshall Hubbard to give the Jaxx a 3-0 lead. The Jaxx were not done as last night's hero, Matt Mangini drove in two with a single to give the Jaxx an early 5-0 advantage.
The starter for the Braves, Deunte Heath (2-4) lasted just 2.0 innings in his first start for the Braves since May 30th. Heath gave up five runs on three hits while walking three and fanning two in the loss.
The Jaxx grabbed another run in the bottom of the fifth when Johan Limonta drove in Greg Halman with a single. Limonta has hit in four of his last five games.
Jaxx starter Steven Shell (3-0), dealt six scoreless innings, scattering just two hits. Shell has allowed just one earned run in his 21 innings for the Diamond Jaxx and 15 straight without an earned run.
Josh Fields a scoreless seventh inning striking out two and walking two. Ricky Orta took care of the eighth and ninth, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
A matinee affair at Pringles Park begins at 12:05 on Wednesday. RHP Justin Souza (5-6, 3.31) gets the nod for the Diamond Jaxx. Souza is second among starters in the Southern League with a 1.13 WHIP. Opposing Souza will be LHP Edgar Osuna (2-2, 5.46).
