Camden Riversharks Lost to LI Ducks, 4-3

Camden Riversharks News Release


The Camden Riversharks were defeated by the Long Island Ducks today, by a final score of 4-3. Long Island pitcher BJ LaMura (5-4) picked up the win, as he pitched 6 innings, giving up only 3 runs on 7 hits. The loss was charged to Camden pitcher Dewon Brazelton (2-4), who gave up 4 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings of work. Closer Bill Simas pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Ducks, picking up his 13th save of the year. With the loss, the Riversharks' season tally falls to 27-32, while Long Island improves to 31-28.

The Riversharks broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the 2nd inning, and took a 1-0 lead. First baseman Jose Leon led off the inning with a double to right field, and then advance to third base on a wild pitch. The next batter was designated hitter Vito Chiaravollotti, who drove home Leon and picked up his 26th RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Long Island answered back in the 3rd inning, and took a 2-1 lead. With one runner aboard, third baseman Matt Cavagnaro hit a fly ball to right field that just cleared the wall for a two run homerun, his first of the season.

Camden recaptured the lead in the bottom of the 3rd, and took a 3-2 lead. With a runner in scoring position, left fielder Jon Knott stepped to the plate and blasted a two run homerun to deep left field, his 2nd of the season.

The homeruns continued in the 6th inning, as the lead one again changed hands. Long Island's Victor Rodriguez led off the inning with a single up the middle. Two batters later, designated hitter Johnny Hernandez smashed a two run homerun to deep right field that gave the Ducks a 4-3 advantage.

With a one run lead heading into the 9th inning, the Ducks put the game in the hands of closer Bill Simas. Simas allowed just one hit while putting the finishing touches on the 4-3 win for the Ducks, and picked up his 13th save of the season

Next up, the Riversharks will hit the road for a three game series with the Bridgeport Bluefish. Right-handed pitcher Nate Bump (8-2, 1.90) will take the hill for the Sharks in game 1 of the series.
