WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Football Club announced the contract extension of import running back Joe Smith, and the signing of import kicker Bradley Pierson today.

As per team policy, details of the agreements are not disclosed.

Smith (6-2, 224, Louisiana Tech, DOB: Aug. 26, 1979 in Monroe, LA) was acquired on September 2, 2008 in a trade with the B.C. Lions for running back Charles Roberts.

In eight regular season games with the Blue Bombers, Smith ran 69 times for 381 yards, a 5.5 yards-per-carry average, and two touchdowns.

His best game came October 10 against Toronto when he rushed 12 times for 101 yards, an 8.4 yards-per-carry average, and the game-winning touchdown.

Smith was the CFL's rushing leader in 2007 with B.C. when he had 281 carries for 1,510 yards and a league-leading 18 rushing touchdowns.

"Joe has proven his worth in the Canadian Football League," said head coach Mike Kelly.

"His production speaks for itself, and we're excited to witness his continual progression and production as member of our football club."

The football club also signed import kicker Bradley Pierson today.

Pierson (5-10, 160, North Carolina State '07, DOB: July 31, 1986 in Chinquapin, NC) did both the punting and placekicking at NC State.

In his first start as a punter, Pierson placed five punts inside the opponent's 20-yardline. He averaged 37.2 yards on 62 punts in 2007. Pierson earned all-conference, all-area and all-state honors at NC State.
