Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (May 13)-One week after clinching the franchise's first Central Hockey League title, the Texas Brahmas have made early additions to their roster as they acquired Chris Shaffer and Jamie McKinven from trade commitments during the 2008-09 season.
Shaffer, a right wing, played 42 games with Corpus Christi last season posting six points (3 G, 3 A). At 5' 11, 195 pounds, Shaffer and his IceRays teammates were able to skate into the postseason. It was his 4th season in the CHL. This completes the three way trade between the Brahmas, Wichita Thunder and Corpus Christi dated back from February 4, which included Marc Belanger to Wichita.
McKinven spent time on the blueline with the Amarillo Gorillas, registering 16 points (6 G, 10 A) in 54 games. His six goals ranked second on the Gorillas roster among all defenseman. The Kingston, ONT native will bring size to the Brahmas as he is listed at 6'1 and 194 pounds. This transaction completes the Alex Greig and Ryan Waldner trade from October and November.
The Brahmas will continue their celebration of their CHL Championship tomorrow night as they will be honored by the Fort Worth Cats at LaGrave Field in their home opener. Several players and Brahmas coaches Dan Wildfong and Ron Vogel will be on hand as well as the coveted Ray Miron President's Cup. The game begins at 7:05 PM.
