IFL Week 10 Preview

Published on May 12, 2009 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

FRIDAY, MAY 15 - MUSKEGON THUNDER (1-7) @ BLOOMINGTON EXTREME (5-4), 7:00 PM

The Thunder and Extreme kick off the Week 10 IFL action . Muskegon wishes to rebound from a tough defeat to defending UIF Champion Sioux Falls. If the Thunder hopes to get their Offense back on track, QB Efi Eyo will have to continue to get the ball to Receiver Richard Gills who is averaging over four receptions per game.

The Extreme fell just short of an upset bid last week against the one-loss Rage. Running back Keith Brooks has been a beast on the ground all season, including finding the end zone twice against the Rage. For the season, the power back has scored ten rushing touchdowns.

SATURDAY, MAY 16 - CORPUS CHRISTI HAMMERHEADS (2-4) @ ABILENE RUFF RIDERS (3-3), 7:00 PM

Yet another Texas battle has the Hammerheads traveling to Abilene for a Lone star showdown. Last week, Corpus Christi got another notch in the win column by defeating a tough Roughneck team. WR Toric Goins came up big, catching 6 passes for 78 yards and three touchdowns. It was the highest scoring performance by a Hammerhead receiver all season.

After starting the season 3-1 the Ruff Riders have dropped their last two to even up their record. Abilene, offensively, will put the ball in QB Quincy Carter's hands and let him take over the game. The gun slinger is third in the IFL, averaging 205 yards passing per contest to go along with his 28 TD's.

SATURDAY, MAY 16 - ALASKA WILD (0-6) @ FAIRBANKS GRIZZLIES (4-3), 7:00 PM

The Wild travel up to Fairbanks for the "Battle of Alaska". The Wild came out on the losing end in the first match-up between the two squads. Star Kick Returner Demarcus James brought back yet another kick last week against Billings, giving him five KR touchdowns thus far on the season. He averages more then 23 yards per return.

By beating the Ice last week, the Grizzlies took over sole possession of second place in the Pacific Division. RB Denny Kimmel has been the ultimate utility player for Fairbanks this season. He is among the league leaders in All-Purpose yards, doing it with his legs, catching passes, and returning kicks.

SATURDAY, MAY 16 - COLORADO ICE (3-4) @ SIOUX CITY BANDITS (1-6), 7:05 PM

Colorado gets back on the road to face a Sioux City team well rested off of their bye week. Their loss last week at the hands of Fairbanks dropped them to third in the Pacific Division. IFL Rushing Leader Terry Washington will look to carry his team to a win, and get the Ice back to the .500 mark. He is averaging over 60 yards on the ground per game to go along with 9 TD's.

The Bandits are still very much in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Central Division. To do that, they will have to sure up their defense against the tough Ice attack. DE Rudy Jones, 2nd in the IFL in average tackles per game, is up for the challenge and will look to disrupt the Ice Quarterback all game.

SATURDAY, MAY 16 - WICHITA WILD (3-4) @ SIOUX FALLS STORM (2-6), 7:05 PM

This match-up between two Central Division foes could have big playoff implications at the end of the season. Wichita is riding a two game winning streak heading into the contest and hopes to make it three against the mighty Storm. RB Darius Fudge hopes to penetrate the Sioux Falls Defensive Line and ad onto the 11 rushing touchdowns he has thus far.

Sioux Falls offense put up big numbers last week in a 74 point performance against Muskegon. Running back Sean Treasure ran the ball 14 times for 96 yards and four touchdowns while also catching 6 balls for 61 yards and a score. He hopes for a repeat performance against the Wild.

SATURDAY, MAY 16 - SAN ANGELO STAMPEDE EXPRESS (2-3) @ ODESSA ROUGHNECKS (1-5), 7:11 PM

Another Lonestar battle pits the Stampede Express against the host Roughnecks. San Angelo is not used to losing streaks, and hopes their current three game slide ends this week, boosting them back to a .500 record. The combination of LB Trae Ivory and DB Jason Snell together average over 11 tackles per game, and will bring that tenacity to Odessa this week.

The Roughnecks feel that they have not played up to their ability and wish to get back on track against San Angelo. Veteran QB, Dennis Gile, paces the Roughnecks attack by averaging a shade under 200 yards of total offense per contest. He will look for an open Jimmy Connor when he goes to the air.

SATURDAY, MAY 16 - SAGINAW STING (3-6) @ MARYLAND MANIACS (5-2), 7:30 PM

The IFL Game of the Week pits the Saginaw Sting against the Maryland Maniacs. The Sting dropped a close battle against this same Maniacs team last week and hope their fortunes change on the road. In that game, the Sting picked off two Maryland passes, and were led by Ruben Gay's 8 tackles

Maryland will go for six wins in a row this weekend on home turf. The streak is an IFL best. Offensive Weapons Darryl Overton and Terry Moss have combined for 16 touchdowns this season. The Maniacs are still chasing the Rage for first in the Atlantic Division.

SATURDAY, MAY 16 -RIVERCITY RAGE (7-1) @ ROCHESTER RAIDERS (2-3), 7:35 PM

After four straight home contests, the Rage head out on the Road to face a Rochester squad coming off a bye week. The RiverCity offense is among the best in the IFL, averaging 51 points per game. In last weekend's hard fought victory over Bloomington, RB Randy Bell scored three touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving).

The Raiders return home, after two road games and bye, and relish the opportunity to play in front of their home crowd. The defense, led by LB Jason Coley, leads the IFL in points allowed, giving up only 28 points per game. They have also only given up nine TD's through the air and have ten team INT's.
