National Lacrosse League announces 2009 All-Star Game starting lineups

February 16, 2009 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release


The National Lacrosse League has announced the starting lineups for its 2009 All-Star Game, which will be played at Pepsi Center in Denver on Saturday, March 7th. The Eastern and Western Division starting lineups were determined by the combined votes of the league's general managers, league media, and fans. The reserves for the Eastern and Western teams will be announced later this week.

2009 All-Star Game Starting Lineups

EASTERN DIVISION

Forwards

Dan Dawson - Boston Blazers

4th All-Star selection; currently third in assists (26) and points (41)

Casey Powell - New York Titans

6th All-Star selection; currently leads league in goals (26) and second in points (52)

Mark Steenhuis - Buffalo Bandits

6th All-Star selection; currently leads league in assists (31) and points (54)

Transition

Geoff Snider - Philadelphia Wings

3rd All-Star selection; currently second in loose balls (112) and has best percentage of faceoff wins (72.6)

Defenseman

Chris White - Buffalo Bandits

2nd All-Star selection; anchors a Bandits defense that holds opponents to a league-lowest average of 9 goals against per game

Goaltender

Ken Montour - Buffalo Bandits

1st All-Star Selection; leads all goaltenders with a league-best 7.50 goals against average

WESTERN DIVISION

Forwards

Colin Doyle - San Jose Stealth

8th All-Star selection; currently tied for fourth in assists (26) and tied for seventh in points (35)

Josh Sanderson - Calgary Roughnecks

5th All-Star selection; currently tied for sixth in assists (24) and tied for seventh in points (35)

Dan Teat - Edmonton Rush

2nd All-Star selection; currently tied for third in goals (17) and tenth in points (33).

Transition

Brodie Merrill - Portland LumberJax

4th All-Star selection; currently leads league in loose balls (115)

Defensemen

Bruce Murray - Colorado Mammoth

2nd All-Star selection; anchors Mammoth defense that has allowed second fewest goals in Western Division (63)

Goaltender

Matt Disher - Portland LumberJax

1st All-Star selection; leads all goaltenders in saves (299) and third in save percentage (.810)

The reserves for the Eastern and Western teams will be announced later this week.

All-Star Weekend Events

On Friday, March 6, Pepsi Center will play host to the NLL All-Star Experience. Doors will open at 6pm for a non-ticketed and free interactive fan event on the home floor of the Colorado Mammoth. Both the East and West All-Star players will be present and available for photos and autographs. The event will feature contests, displays, interactive demonstrations and booths with various activities. Wooly, the Colorado mascot, will be present as well as the Wild Bunch, the team's dance squad. At 8pm, the talents of the players take center stage during the All-Star Skills Challenge. The Skills Challenge begins at 10pm ET/8pm MT and will be broadcast live on the NLL Network. The Friday night capper will be a party in the Blue Sky Grill at Pepsi Center featuring the players, coaches and dancers.

All-Star Saturday will kick off early at Pepsi Center with a variety of Colorado Youth Lacrosse Association games inside the venue. The National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame luncheon will be held in The Ridgeline on the ADT Club Level at Pepsi Center, where Dallas Eliuk and Jim Veltman will be inducted as the class of 2009. Tickets for the luncheon will be available to the public with special access surrounding that event. The Hall of Fame ceremony will be broadcast live on the NLL Network. At 9pm ET/7pm MT Saturday, the East All-Stars will face off against the West All-Stars in the highlight of the weekend. The game will be broadcast live on the NLL Network. Following the game, players will be available on the field for autographs.
