Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ice announced today that the team has acquired forward Mike Cichy (see-chee) from the Tri-City Storm for the club's first round pick in the 2009 USHL Draft and future considerations.
Cichy has been one of the top offensive players in the USHL the past two seasons as he has registered 74 points (26G, 48A) in 85 games the last two years as a member of the Storm. He was the club's leading scorer last season with 45 points (16G, 29A) and was leading Tri-City in scoring this year with 29 points (10G, 19A) in 26 games.
The New Hartford, CT, native has garnered several accolades the past few months. He was MVP of the World Junior A Challenge for Team USA back in early November as he led the American squad composed of many of the best U-18 players in the nation in scoring with ten points (5G, 5A) in five games. Team USA won the gold medal at the tournament held in Camrose, Alberta.
He was recently ranked on the National Hockey League's Central Scouting Mid-Term Rankings for the 2009 NHL Draft as he was 168th among North American skaters. The offensive playmaker also has secured a future college commitment to the University of North Dakota.
Cichy is expected to join his teammates in time for this weekend's home games against Chicago and Green Bay at Pepsi Coliseum. Both Friday and Saturday nights' contests are 7:30 pm face-offs.
In other news, Ice forward Alex Handy has left the team to pursue a hockey opportunity at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.
