
Tigres' Nestrasil named Boston Pizza CHL Player of the Week

TORONTO, Tuesday, December 2, 2008 - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Andrej Nestrasil of the Victoriaville Tigres is the Boston Pizza CHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 30. Nestrasil scored three goals and five assists for eight points and finished the week with a plus-minus rating of plus-4 leading the Tigres to three wins in three games.
Nestrasil demonstrated his scoring touch beginning Tuesday night when he scored two goals including a late power play marker to tie the game and added one assist in a 5-4 shootout win over the Val d'Or Foreurs. Nestrasil would also score the shootout winner and was named the first star of the game. On Friday he contributed an assist in a 5-3 road win over the Gatineau Olympiques. His week finished Sunday at home to Lewiston with a first star of the game performance where he was involved in all of the scoring for the Tigres with one goal and three assists in a 4-1 win over the MAINEiacs.
Nestrasil, a 17-year-old from Prague, Czech Republic, is in his rookie season in the QMJHL with the Tigres. He was selected eighth overall by Victoriaville in the 2008 CHL Import Draft. The left winger is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and was recently ranked 13th among QMJHL skaters by NHL Central Scouting in their preliminary rankings.
Taylor Procyshen of the Tri-City Americans scored two goals and five assists for seven points in three games helping the Americans go 3-0-0-0 on the week, representing the WHL's nominee for the award. Procyshen was twice named first star of the game. John Tavares of the Oshawa Generals is the OHL nominee for the award for scoring four goals and one assist for five points in three games. Tavares had two games where he scored two goals and was the first star of the game. His second goal scored on Sunday in a 5-4 win against the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors was the 178th goal of his OHL career which set a new all-time Generals franchise record previously held for 26 seasons by Tony Tanti.
