Rascals Bring Back Peanut Free Section 109 For 2009

December 2, 2008 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, MO - The River City Rascals are pleased to announce the return of peanut-free section 109 during all Wednesday home games for the upcoming 2009 season. The Rascals are happy to partner with Gateway FEAST again for this very important and ground-breaking promotion.

Gateway FEAST (Food allergy, Eczema, and Asthma Support Team) is an educational support group of volunteers dedicated to providing resources, support, social activities and encouragement to families coping with these allergic conditions, as well as to raising awareness and educating the community regarding the unique needs of these families.

In support of Gateway FEAST, the River City Rascals have re-designated section 109 during every Wednesday home game as a "Peanut-Free Section." Here fans with such food allergies can come to a baseball game and avoid the hazards that peanuts can cause on their health.

The Rascals operations crew will pay special attention to section 109 on Wednesdays, thoroughly cleaning it of all peanut shells and peanut dust that can be harmful to those with allergies. ARAMARK Sports & Entertainment, the Rascals official food & beverage partner, will also do their part to ensure the safety of fans in that area as it will halt all peanut vendors from entering the section during games.

Making his popular return in 2009 to section 109 on Wednesday games will be "Peanut Pete." "Peanut Pete" was made famous during the Rascals overwhelming national media surge last summer when he was discussed on Fox National News in an interview between Fox News anchor Jane Skinner and Rascals Senior Director of Ticket Sales Zach Ziler during the "Happening Now" broadcast. "Peanut Pete" is the official usher guard of section 109 and takes pride in ensuring it stays peanut-free.

"We look forward to partnering with the River City Rascals on another season of promoting food allergy awareness," Laura Veach of Gateway FEAST said. "It is our goal to make Peanut-Safe Wednesdays in section 109 even more successful during the 2009 season." "We are so grateful for the continuing support of our kids and others affected by allergies by the Rascals organization."

Rascals General Manager Chris Franklin agrees. "We are pleased to continue to offer a peanut-free zone in 2009." "Our organization will continue to our best to make sure T.R. Hughes Ballpark truly is a place for any and everyone to enjoy."

Fans with peanut related food allergies can purchase tickets by calling 636-240-BATS and asking for the special section.
