Timbers earn marketing award at annual USL meeting

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers received the USL First Division's Marketing award at United Soccer Leagues' annual general meeting over the weekend. The award was presented at the USL Hall of Fame and Awards Dinner as USL recognized outstanding performances by its member teams during the season along with the 2008 Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The Marketing award is given to a team in each league that best promotes its team and communicates with its fans through traditional and non-traditional avenues.

Additionally, the Timbers' new director of soccer development and assistant coach, Amos Magee, was inducted into the USL Hall of Fame on Friday. Selected by previous Hall of Fame inductees and USL president Francisco Marcos, Magee was honored for his accomplishments as a player with the Minnesota Thunder from 1991-2005.

The USL Hall of Fame and Awards Dinner included the Hall of Fame inductions of Magee, goalkeeper Pat Onstad and club owner Mo Sheta, the presentation of team awards as well as 10+ club member recognitions.

Key Grip: Lindsay Puchlik, Vancouver Whitecaps

Sprinturf Executive of the Year: Andrew Bell, Charleston Battery
