Three goals for Derek Arnold lifted the Waterloo Black Hawks past the
Chicago Steel 6-2 Wednesday at the Edge Ice Arena.Arnold opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period, netting the rebound of Patrick Wey's shot on the power play at 13:33.
The Hawks struck again early in the second period when Eriah Hayes fired in a low shot from the leftwing circle. Killing off a 96 second, five-on-three Chicago power play midway through the second preserved the 2-0 lead.
Waterloo went back on offense at 11:29 of the period; Jordan Samuels-Thomas found Eddie Olczyk trailing a rush and fed him the puck with an open side. Thirty-one second later, Arnold scored on a wrap-around try.
Chicago was able to put a point on the board when Eric Alexander converted a breakaway at 16:29.
In the final 20 minutes, Craig Smith added to the scoring, lifting a puck under the crossbar at 13:02. Greg Wolfe redirected a puck into the net for the Steel at 18:29. However, Arnold bracketed the scoring, stealing a puck and trickling it through Matthew Delaney's pads at 18:59.
Delaney had come on in relief of Hudson Stremmel following Arnold's second goal. Joe Howe made 25 saves in the Black Hawk net.
