Lake Monsters Trio Among Baseball America's Top Prospects

2008 Lake Monsters Derek Norris, PJ Dean and Danny Espinosa have all named named as top 20 New York-Penn League prospects by Baseball America.

Norris, who hit .278 with a league-high and team record 63 walks for Vermont, was selected as the fourth-best prospect in the New York-Penn League. The 19-year-old, who was selected by the Nationals in the fourth-round of the 2007 draft, also hit 10 home runs for the Lake Monsters and led the league with a .444 on-base percentage.

Dean, who went 4-1 with a 1.57 ERA in 10 starts for the Lake Monsters, was named the 10th-best prospect in the league. The 19-year-old was taken by Washington in the seventh round of the 2007 draft. Espinosa, the third-round selection in the 2008 draft out of Long Beach State, was ranked the 14th-best prospect after hitting .328 (21-for-64) in 19 games for Vermont.

Tri-City catcher Jason Castro, who was taken in the first round of the 2008 draft by the Houston Astros out of Stanford University, was named the top prospect in the New York-Penn League. Auburn first baseman David Cooper was second and Batavia pitcher Adam Reifer was third, while Williamsport catcher Travis d'Arnaud was named the fifth-best prospect, making catchers three of the top five prospects.

NATIONALS MOVE TRIPLE-A AFFILIATE TO SYRACUSE

The Washington Nationals have announced that they had reached an agreement with the Syracuse Chiefs of the International League on a two-year Player Development Contract, moving the Nationals Triple-A affiliation from Columbus to Syracuse.

The Nationals other Minor League affiliates will remain the same as they were in 2008 with Double-A Harrisburg, Single-A Potomac, Single-A Hagerstown and the Lake Monsters.
