Majors Complete Exhibition Season With Win Over Attack

September 14, 2008 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Mississauga St. Michael's Majors

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors finished off their pre-season schedule this afternoon as they traveled to Owen Sound to take on the Attack. Mississauga got all three goals in the middle frame to defeat the home squad 3-1. As a result, the Majors complete their exhibition run this year with a 3-1-2 record.

There was no scoring in the 1st period, while Owen Sound outshot Mississauga 12-10.

The action picked up in the 2nd period as Mississauga's William Wallén put the visitors on the board when he scored at 3:07, unassisted, on the power-play. Then, Kyle Mariani (at 4:03) and Ryan Lopes (at 5:28, unassisted) each connected to give the Majors a 3-0 lead. The assists went to Mike Pelech and Jared Gomes. Owen Sound's Marcus Carroll responded on a man-advantage at 7:53, with help from Spencer Metcalfe and Kody Musselman, to end the frame.

Mississauga remained in the lead, in a scoreless 3rd period, and concluded the affair with a 3-1 victory.

JP Anderson got the start in net and made 26 saves for the Majors, while Paul Claxton stopped 30 shots for the Attack.

Mississauga's regular season kicks off on the road when they visit the Barrie Colts this Thursday (September 18) at 7:30 p.m. Their home opener will take place on Friday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. as they face-off against the Niagara IceDogs. Tickets to the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship exhibition game between Canada and Finland on December 21, which is presented by the Majors in conjunction with Hockey Canada, are now available.
