Geneva, IL (Sep 5, 2008) - The Burlington Bees are headed to the Western Division championship series after a 9-6 victory over Kane County Friday night. Clint Robinson had three hits and three RBI as the Bees became the second team in the Midwest League to punch their ticket to the next round.
Neither team scored a run during the first two innings of play. The Bees then began the scoring by puting up three runs in the top of the third inning. Ryan Eigsti led the inning off with a single and then moved to second when David Lough was hit by a pitch. A balk moved each runner up a bag. Johnny Giavotella then reached on an error, which also scored Eigsti. Mike Moustakas grounded out to score Lough and the Bees led 2-0. After another out was recorded, Clint Robinson singled to score Giavotella and give the Bees a 3-0 lead.
Kane County scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to get back within one run. The Bees got their lead right back in the top of the fourth by answering with another two runs. Jamar Walton led the inning off by hitting a homerun to right field to extend the Bees' lead back to two runs. Juan Rivera then singled and moved to second on an error. With two outs, Giavotella singled, which scored Rivera and the Bees led 5-2.
The Bees added another run in the top of the seventh inning. With two outs, Jason Taylor and Robinson each singled. With runners at the corners, Nick Van Stratten then singled to score Taylor and give the Bees a four-run lead. Kane County did not go away though as they scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Bees tried to put the game away in the top of the eighth by scoring another three runs. Rivera led the inning off with a single and then stole second and moved to third on an error. Robinson then doubled to score Lough and Moustakas and give the Bees a 9-4 lead. Kane County did score two runs in the bottom of the eighth but could not score anymore to complete the comeback.
