Yakima Bears News Release
(Yakima, WA) - Sean Morgan pitched six strong innings for his first win of the season, as the Yakima Bears beat the Tri-City Dust Devils 5-3 Monday night at Yakima County Stadium.
After Tri-City took a 1-0 lead on a first inning RBI fielder's choice by Patrick Rose, the Bears took the lead for good with three two-out runs in the first. Anthony Smith blooped an RBI single to centerfield to tie the game, and Justin Parker drove a two-run triple to right-centerfield to give Yakima a 3-1 lead.
The Bears made it 5-1 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Smith and a steal of third by Alfredo Marte, who came home on a throwing error by the catcher Johnny Bowden. Those runs proved big, as Tri-City scored twice in the seventh on an RBI double by Leonardo Reyes and a sacrifice fly by James Sims.
Morgan allowed just the one run on two hits over six innings, with three walks and six strikeouts. He struck out four in a row at one point, and did not allow a hit after the first.
The bullpen made the lead hold up, as Jason Durst pitched a perfect eighth and Jordan Meaker earned his sixth save by stranding the tying runs on in a scoreless ninth.
The Bears host the Dust Devils in the final home game of the season Tuesday night, with T.J. Hose on the mound for Yakima at 7:05 p.m.
