Lancaster JetHawks News Release

BAKERSFIELD, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks put together a complete effort Wednesday night in Bakersfield. They got brilliant pitching, plenty of offense, and big plays from the defense as the JetHawks shut out the Blaze 5-0. It was the first shutout the JetHawks have been involved in during the second half and the fifth they've pitched this year. Lancaster wins its fifth consecutive game and holds on to first place in the second half. They drop their magic number to clinch the top seed in the Southern Division to just six.

The offense set the stage for Lancaster early. Ryan Kalish hit a two-run homer in the first inning to put the JetHawks ahead. A Zak Farkes double set up a run in the second while a Yamaico Navarro single and stolen base did the same in the third. Kris Negron's solo home run in the fifth inning added another and proved to be more than enough for Blake Maxwell.

Rebounding from a couple of tough starts, Maxwell controlled the game throughout his seven innings. He surrendered only five hits without a walk and did not allow a single runner to advance even as far as second base. Josh Papelbon completed the game with two scoreless frames.

Navarro continued to rebound from a brief cold snap with two more hits. Aaron Reza also had two hits. Ryan Kalish has now driven in five runs over the last two games.

The JetHawks continue a three-game road trip Thursday night against Bakersfield. Travis Beazley (7-10) starts for Lancaster while the Blaze counter with Kasey Kiker (5-4). The game starts at 7:15 PM. The radio coverage is broadcast live on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com with the Pre-Game Show beginning at 7:00
