Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LAKE ELSINORE, CA) - While strong pitching led the JetHawks to victory in the first three games of their series in Lake Elsinore, in Friday's series finale, it was the offense's turn. The JetHawks set season highs in runs and hits, came a triple shy of the California League record, and had two players fall just one hit short of a cycle as they blitzed the Storm 17-8. The win is the JetHawks sixth in a row, a season high. It also completed a four-game Sweep of the Storm and clinches the season series in the JetHawks favor against Lake Elsinore.
The game was practically sealed in the second inning when Lancaster sent twelve batters to the plate. All the scoring came with two outs. Argenis Diaz had a RBI single and Matt Sheely a two-run triple to get the ball rolling. Daniel Nava and Lars Anderson added RBI singles and Josh Reddick drove in two with a bases-loaded single as the JetHawks jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
All nine JetHawks had at least one hit and scored at least one run. Remarkably, eight of the players drove in at least one run. Reid Engel had a huge night with a home run, a triple, and a double. His chance for a cycle ended in the ninth when he grounded out. Argenis Diaz also had a chance for a cycle with a single, double, and triple going into the eighth. Diaz settled for a second triple on the night's most bizarre play. His line drive to the right field wall sent right fielder Kellen Kulbacki crashing against the fence. Instead of hitting the wall, Kulbacki fell backwards through a door in the wall, toppling over and allowing Diaz to get to third.
The JetHawks had five triples in the game, just one short of the California League record.
The JetHawks open a six-game homestand Saturday night against Inland Empire. Chris Jones (4-4) starts for Lancaster while the 66ers counter with Josh Wall (6-3). The game starts at 7:00 PM. The radio coverage is broadcast live on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com starting at 6:45.
The JetHawks will be holding what minorleaguebaseball.com calls the best giveaway in all of baseball. The first 500 youth age 16 and under will receive a free JetHawks custom skateboard. The JetHawks will also be raffling off nine skateboards that have been autographed by the team. One fan will win a skateboard each inning.
