Mobile BayBears News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - It was a doubleheader split for the BayBears in Riverwalk Stadium on Thursday night as they fell in game one 4-2 but bounced back in the nightcap with a 3-1 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits.
Adam Howard (6-3) was sharp for the BayBears (28-39) in game two as he worked six innings while allowing just one run on three hits. That run came home in the first inning for the Biscuits (32-35) as Rashad Eldridge scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Nowak. Howard only gave up one more hit after the first inning which allowed his offense to battle back.
In the third, Chris Rahl punched out a two-out single and put himself into scoring position with a stolen base. Rahl came in on a base knock by Gerardo Parra to tie the game. In the sixth, Rahl and Parra both singled and stole a base to set up Cesar Nicolas, who reached on a catcher's interference call to make it 2-1. A Cyle Hankerd sac fly put the BayBears up 3-1 while Reid Mahon (S, 15) worked a scoreless seventh inning.
In the opener, Montgomery scored three in the fourth against Brooks Brown (3-8) to break a scoreless tie. Eldridge knocked in a run, and Ronnie Merrill smacked a two-run double. Parra and Rusty Ryal drove in the only two BayBear runs, but a bases loaded threat in the fifth inning ended with a line drive double play.
Tony Barnette (3-6, 5.43) will be on the hill for the BayBears Friday night at 7:05 when the BayBears play game three of their series with the Biscuits. The final two games of the series on Saturday and Sunday will be played at Hank Aaron Stadium with Saturday's contest beginning at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
