COLUMBUS, GA (May 9th) - In the first of back-to-back showdowns, the Mississippi Mudcats (8-0) of the American Indoor Football Association defeated the Columbus Lions (6-3) 70-61.
After taking the early lead in the first quarter, the Lions fell behind in the second quarter 21-7. Led by Wide Receiver Gerald Gales 2 first half touchdowns, the Lions crawled and scratched back to within 9 points into halftime. Gales would end up leaving midway through the second quarter due to a leg injury.
Led by Mudcats Quarterback Tommy Jones' 8 passing touchdowns on the night, Mississippi compiled 359 total yards of offense. Jones finished the night completing 20 of 26 passes and only threw 1 interception.
The Lions trio of receivers, Gales, Merritt, and Daniels were kept relatively in check with no receiver having more than 7 receptions or over 100 yards. Conrad finished the night completing 50% of his passes and completing 22 of 44 passes for 274 yards and 5 touchdowns.
