Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will again be part of the Barksdale Air Force Base Airshow this year when team captain Chris Brassard jumps with the U.S. Army's "Golden Knights" parachute team. The jump is scheduled for 10:50 am on Saturday and will be one of the first events in the 2008 Airshow. Brassard, who just completed his sixth season with the Mudbugs, has never been skydiving before.

"I'm actually scared of heights and I don't like airplanes, so of course I'm nervous, but there's no group I'd rather do my first jump with," Brassard said. "I'm honored to be able to jump for the first time with a prestigious team like the Army Golden Knights."

The Mudbugs' team captain was selected out of a pool of local candidates to participate in the 2008 Barksdale Airshow. In years past, Head Coach Scott Muscutt flew with the Blue Angels and longtime player Dan Wildfong once jumped with the Canadian SkyHawks parachute team.

"Both the Barksdale Air Force Base and the Mudbugs hockey organization have long standing relationships with the local community," said Staff Sergeant Sarah Kusek from the Barksdale public affairs office. "Having "Brass" participate in the tandem jump is a chance to highlight those relationships while providing him a glimpse into the professionalism, leadership and teamwork in the military community."

This year's Airshow and Open House is just part of Barksdale's 75th anniversary celebration and gives the community a chance to see some of the most sophisticated technology in the world. It allows the public to see a great range of America's military aircraft along with some of the most skilled military and civilian aviators putting their high-performance aircraft to the test.

"The Airshow also gives us the opportunity to give back to the community and to show where their tax dollars are being put to good use," according to Kusek. "It's also one of our biggest recruiting tools to ensure we have the best and brightest individuals serving and defending our country."

The 2008 Barksdale Air Force Base Airshow happens this Saturday and Sunday with gates opening at 9:00 am and the show starting at 10:00 both days. Parking and admission are free. For more information, visit www.barksdaleafbairshow.com.
