Sundogs One Step Away From President's Cup

The Arizona Sundogs are on the verge of winning their first Ray Miron President's Cup title in just their second season as a franchise. The 'Dogs will take a 3-0 series lead into Friday's Game Four versus the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM (MST) and the game can be seen LIVE on the CHL Network.

Despite being outshot 53-30 by Colorado in Game Three, the Sundogs made the most of their scoring chances beating Sebastien Laplante five times including three times for Mark Kolanos. Jason Visser and Alex Leavitt also scored goals for Arizona. Dusty Collins added two assists.

The story of Game Three was Rob McVicar who made 51 saves improving to 10-1 in the post-season. Dating back to Game Seven versus Laredo in the Southern Conference Finals, McVicar has won four straight starts allowing just eight goals over that stretch.

Game 1 - Sundogs 6 v. Eagles 4 (at Tim's Toyota Center)

Cory Urquhart had a hat trick and Alex Leavitt scored a goal with two assists. Riley Nelson had a goal and three helpers in the loss for the Eagles.

Game 2 - Sundogs 5 v. Eagles 1 (at Tim's Toyota Center)

The Sundogs went 3 for 6 on the power play and Tyler Liebel scored a shorthanded goal. Tyler Redenbach had a goal and three assists and Dan Laperriere had three helpers for Arizona.

Game 3 - Sundogs 5 v. Eagles 2 (at Budweiser Events Center)

Arizona's Rob McVicar made 51 saves and Mark Kolanos scored three goals putting the Sundogs on the brink of capturing the President's Cup. Colorado outshot the Sundogs 53-30 but could only get two shots past McVicar.

Mc-MVP???

Through three games of the President's Cup Finals, Arizona goaltender Rob McVicar has been the MVP stopping 105 of 112 shots (.938) and an even more impressive 81 of 84 shots in the last two games (.964). In the playoffs, McVicar has a 10-1 record with a 3.29 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.
