Camden Riversharks News Release

CAMDEN, NJ - Sunday's game between the Camden Riversharks and York Revolution was decided early. The Riversharks put up five runs in the second inning. It was all pitcher Darren Sack needed.

Rightfielder LJ Biernbaum led the charge with a single through the right side of the infield. With two outs, left fielder Nic Jackson singled and pushed Biernbaum to second. Both advanced on a wild pitch from York starter Aaron Rakers, and shortstop Gabe Suarez knocked both in with a double down the left field line.

Catcher Erick San Pedro walked, putting runners on first and second for centerfielder Chris Walker. Walker tripled for his second time this season, and scored on a Gary Cates double to make it 5-0.

Sack allowed one hit in five shutout innings. He struck out three and walked two.

York battled in the seventh but came up short. Righthander Vince Perkins walked the bases loaded with one out. He was yanked for righty Mike Flannery, who gave up an infield single to first baseman Tyler Von Schell, making it 5-1. Flannery ended the half by striking out catcher Luis Taveras.

There was more of the same in the ninth. Righty Alec Zumwalt pitched erratically. York third baseman Matt Padgett doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. He scored on a sacrifice fly from leftfielder Jason Aspito, but it was all for naught. Pinch hitter Kenny Perez struck out swinging, ending the game at 5-2.

"Timely hitting, good pitching and defense wins a lot of ballgames," manager Joe Ferguson said. "That's the recipe for success. We do that, and we're not going to lose a lot."

The Riversharks continue the homestand Monday night at 7:05 p.m., against the Somerset Patriots. Tickets are available online at www.riversharks.com or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
