Staten Island Yankees News Release

The Staten Island Yankees are pleased to announce that they will host the Back to Baseball Bash 2008 on Sunday, April 27. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., fans will have a chance to return to the stadium for a great day of fun and entertainment.

The Back to Baseball Bash marks the first day on which individual game tickets go on sale to the general public. Games such as Opening Day against Brooklyn, July 4th against Mahoning Valley, and the return of the Zooperstars on July 3 and August 9 are sure to go quickly.

Returning season ticket holders and those interested in purchasing a ticket plan will have a chance to sample the freshly grilled food from the Pinstripe Pavilion, including the newly added condiment bar. Throughout the day, all fans in attendance will be able to sample the ballpark fare as well, with one-dollar hot dog and soda specials.

Additionally, Richmond County Bank Ballpark will unveil its new Staten Island Physician Practice Fun Zone, featuring games, music, face painters, and entertainment for the whole family. The Bash will also be the public debut of manager Pat McMahon, who is entering his first season with the Staten Island Yankees.

There will also be ample opportunity to win great prizes and merchandise at the event. All season ticket holders and day-of ticket buyers will be automatically entered into a prize raffle for the chance to win one of several great prizes. Several lucky fans can walk away with a complementary suite for up to 20 people with food and beverage included for a select Staten Island Yankees game, New York Yankees memorabilia, or a Staten Island Yankees gift basket featuring merchandise with the team's brand new logos. Also taking place is a silent auction of game-worn Baby Bomber jerseys.

In addition to the day's planned activities, the first 100 season ticket holders to arrive as well as the first 500 customers to purchase two or more tickets to select Baby Bomber games will have the exciting opportunity to meet New York Yankees greats Tino Martinez or Darryl Strawberry, who will be on hand to sign autographs.

Martinez enjoyed an illustrious career in the Majors that spanned over 16 seasons, playing for the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. A two-time All-Star, he won four World Series with the Yankees and finished second in American League MVP voting for the 1997 season. After retiring with the Yankees in 2007, the sure-handed first baseman is currently serving as a special defensive instructor for the team, as well as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of South Florida baseball squad.

Joining Martinez will be Strawberry, his teammate on three of the four Series-winning Yankees teams. During his 17-year career, the Straw Man received eight All-Star selections while playing for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and New York Yankees. He was named National League Rookie of the Year in 1983 and won his first World Series ring with the 1986 Miracle Mets squad that defeated the Boston Red Sox. After overcoming colon cancer, Strawberry made a courageous comeback to baseball in 1999 and was an integral part of the Yankees' World Series victory, the team's third in four years.

According to Staten Island Yankees Executive Vice President and General Manager Jane Rogers, the decision to invite Martinez and Strawberry to the event was an easy one to make.

"When you look back at the Yankees teams of the late nineties, there was no one who embodied what it means to be a true Yankee more than Tino Martinez," Rogers said. "Furthermore, looking back at last year's Old Timer's Day, it was clear that Darryl Strawberry was the favorite returning Yankee among the fans. He signed autographs, greeted fans, and was a great guest. We are happy to have him back at the ballpark."

Staten Island Yankees president Joe Ricciutti is excited at the chance reopen the gates to Richmond County Bank Ballpark in anticipation for the upcoming 2008 season.

"I am delighted to welcome back our fans," Ricciutti said. "This will be a great opportunity for Staten Island Yankees fans to get a glimpse of what the 2008 season has in store."
